Importance: High

Dear Bobby and Renate,   (I am a good friend of Jim Bunch so you will know)

This is Bob Gabriel l and I wanted to pass along to you if you are not aware of the meeting that is being held at the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum on Hatteras Island on Tuesday, May 19, 2008 from 9am to 4pm.  This meeting is the quarterly meeting being organized by the Monitor Marine Sanctuary Advisory Committee of NOAA and headed by David Alberg, Superintend of the Monitor Marine Sanctuary.  The purpose of this meeting as per the agenda is to show and talk about past, present, and future events of the Sanctuary.  There is a strong possibility of discussion of the expansion of the Marine Sanctuary for the area and the formation of a committee to see if there is interest or not of this expansion.

As a life long lover of the Ocean, a resident of Dare County for 27 years, operator of the Ocean Rescue for 18 years, and a scuba diver sense I was 17years old (for the record I am 64 now). I have a deep interest in the open and inland waters of the State of North Carolina and a deep passion for the history of our waters and shipwrecks.  I have worked hard to preserve our sea treasures, encourage old seasoned divers to dive here, and to bring new divers to our waters and state from all over the United States and the world.  The Thunder Bay Sanctuary in the Great Lakes is a great success for both divers, conservationists, and the economic growth of the communities.  The waters and shipwrecks off the Coast of NC are a major diving destination for divers and fisher people that use these shipwrecks for pleasure, education, and their livelihoods.  I am an independent Master Scuba Diver that is certified by SSI and NOUI.   I am not affiliated or paid by any dive boat, dive shop, manufacturer, or any other related interested party in diving or fishing, I would like to serve on any possible committee that could or would be formed as a representative of the divers’ interests in any possible expansion of a marine sanctuary.  I have an open mind and want to give my thoughts and input to all sides of this process for the best possible out come for the all parties involved.

I will be at the above meeting on the 19th and would appreciate any support you could give to me to represent the scuba divers or our Great State of North Carolina.  Please feel free to call , e-mail , or just send a letter to me with any questions, I might be able to answer for you as I feel I would be of service to the community of scuba divers with my total independence.

Sincerely yours,

 Bob Gabrie l
