2007 Dive Reports

January 3 or 4 - a group of crazy Canadians went diving while they were here in town for the "Big Event"
Conditions were good, water was warm and visibility about 70'. Tons of sharks!

Late Feb - there is a Tech trip scheduled out of Olympus to the Yancey...they didn't make it quite that far. Stopped at the Aeolus. Vis and temps were low.

Late March - The ''Big O'' went to the Papoose. On tying in, more sharks were seen than have been in a long time.
Vis was about 40' and temps in the low 70's on the bottom

April 14 - The Olympus made it to the Indra for student training dives today... the water was cold, and visibility about 12 feet.
A typical student experience ''if you can do this, future dives WILL be better!''

68 First trip of the year! Finally made one in April! A bit rolly, but still a great day. TONS of fish on both wrecks, both have that "undived" feel after a long winter. The seas got calmer as the day progressed.

Papoose 20 then 70 77 On Saturday the Papoose had 20' and a screaming current, but it brought in some clear water on Sunday, just in time to get really rough. The Spar also had 20', but no current.

Indra 10/5   Not so good. Then it got windy on Sunday.

nice Olympus went to the Lobster Wreck on Saturday- took a chance after this week's wind storm and got lucky- the mate could see the wreck after jumping in. (Was not as good on the southern wrecks).

May 19 Indra 30-35 68 A good day of diving, we stayed in-shore and actually had better vis than the offshore wrecks! In the afternoon the wind fell out and seas got rather flat. "That's not my dog!!"

May 21 Hardees 30-35 68 Again, decent vis and the best direction to go considering the sea state... tons of amberjack surrounded the divers, and a single sand-tiger was on patrol. A noticeable current picked up on the 2nd dive.
May 22 Naeco 80+ 76
May 23 Schurz 60-70 75 A bit choppy topside, but very nice underwater. Vis is good and there are tons of fish on the wreck.

May 25 Sailboat
Sub

Calm seas allow a dive on the sailboat, where conditions are excellent. The sub has a bit less vis, but "everyone needs to dive it at least once!"
May 26 Naeco 90+ 76 Another awesome day, great vis and warm water. A few sharks and many more lionfish are still on the wreck.
May 27 Cassimir 100 75 Flat seas again! A long day to the WR2 was a good choice today- it too has fantastic vis and no current. A school of coronetfish were hanging near the anchor.
May 28 Sailboat
Papoose
90+ 75 What a fantastic Memorial Day Weekend! Lots of sharks are back on the Papoose!

May 31 Rock Ledges 70-80 78 The High Pressure wave continues, flat seas make the ledge dives very easy. A few lobster were recovered and even a lost anchor!

Bobby saw a 14+' hammerhead near the Cassimer, it's hammer was about 5' across, the biggest shark he's ever seen. It could have eaten the largest sand tiger out there, easily. Wow!
