May 7       15 blowouts so far
May 8 Naeco 30-35 69-71 After the 2nd "tropical storm" style of weather pattern, we finally made a dive! After investigating water temps offshore, we figured our best bet was the Naeco. It was blue water on top and a bit stirred up on the bottom. A group of small blacktip sharks were investigating our deep hang-line weight and lots of fish life was on the wreck. Seas were 2-3, with not much wind at all. A great day!
We made an excellent choice, because the Papoose had Zero, yes, Zero vis on the wreck.
May 14 & 15 Rocks 40-50 68-72 2 nice days of diving rock ledges near the Papoose. Caught lobster, grouper, hog snapper, flounder. Plenty of Lionfish are down there.
May 20 Indra 40 65 Seas were a bit choppy, but underwater vis was great. Lots of life on the Indra, and it's easy to get inside and explore the interior!
May 21 Titan 30 62 The Titan is holding up well after the winter: vis was good for a 60' dive and growth is starting to really take root on this wreck.
May 22 Papoose
Sub
60
30
73 Excellent vis and many many sharks on the Papoose! Most divers even found a few teeth. Less vis on the sub, but still a good dive.
May 28 Naeco Stern 80 69
72
Beautiful dive, great vis. Sharks and lionfish are everywhere!
Mild reverse thermocline, cooler on top.
May 29 Proteus 70 62
73
Incredible reverse thermocline, cold and very murky down to 30', then it got warm and clear below that. Lots of sharks and great vis on the bottom.
May 30 Naeco Bow
Sub

68
Great clear vis on the bow, loads of lionfish and Flounder everywhere! Nice dive on the sub, not as clear but still good vis.
Quote of the week:
"HEY BOB, DID YOU SEE THAT ORANGE BOAT?"
May 31 Papoose 70 71 As always, sharks on the Papoose. A big turtle was sleeping up near the bow, and vis was nice and clear.

June

  Location Visibility Temp Comments
June 3 Naeco Stern 80 73 Good shark and lionfish footage on the stern...
June 4 Naeco Bow 80 73 No sharks but plenty of lionfish, grouper, pompano, etc.
June 5 Cassimir 70 70 Nice day, nice dive. Cassimir is a great wreck, the bow section is still an awesome sight. Coronetfish still hanging around.
June 6 Lobster Wreck, Normannia 100

Lots of lionfish on the Lobster Wreck, and lobster, too! Normannia had quite a few flounder, and great conditions.
June 7 Naeco 80+ 76 Both sections of the Naeco are very clear and warm. Lionfish are everywhere. Sharks abound on the stern section.
June 8 Proteus 70 74 Cool & murky on top, and warm & clear on bottom. Plenty of sharks, and a frisky bull shark as well.
June 9 Rockpile

The box wreck (rockpile) had a good current, but worth diving for the excellent vis and plentiful sea life.

Made it offshore for the first dive, but building winds sent us inshore for the second dive. The Indra upper decks had phenomenal visibility, but the bottom 20' drops off to nearly 0. Great if you stayed over 50' deep!
June 12 Rockpile 100 74 Another excellent dive on the box wreck. Tons of fish, rays, grouper, flounder and lionfish!!
June 13 Indra 60
5
70 Excellent vis to the lower deck, then substantially muddy on the bottom. But clearer than 2 days ago, and upper decks still have great conditions. A medium Sand Tiger is making rounds on the wreck.
June 14 Titan
Suloide

70 Nice vis, clearing up somewhat on the bottom. A few flounder on the Suloide.
June 15 Duhamel
Caribe Sea

70 Vis on the duhamel was better with your eyes closed. No dive.
Caribe Sea was nice, big, cooperative sharks and lots of fish life.
June 16 Papoose 85-90 77top

Clear water and a few sharks seen on the Papoose.
June 17 Schurz
Hutton

Schurz is now home to a few sharks, and the tons of other fish life always seen there. The Hutton has had great visibility and a few sharks as well.
June 18 Proteus 60-80 78 Great dive on the Proteus, anchored in "Shark City!" Had quite a show when a squall went by and dropped 7 waterspouts about 2 miles away during the surface interval.
June 19 Hutton 50 71 A bit rough on top, but great vis in-shore. Sharks still patrolling this wreck, making spearfishing a bit hazardous.
June 21 Sailboat
Schurz
60 77 Beautiful day on the water, and great conditions below. Lots of life on both wrecks, a few lionfish and sharks. What's for dessert?
June 22 Papoose
Sub
80-90 78 Nice clear blue water on the Papoose, good vis but a bit less clear on the Sub. I have an idea for dessert tonight!
June 23 Bedfordshire
Ashkabad
45 76 Tons of shells and fish on the Bedfordshire. Ashkabad had better vis yesterday, but still a good dive. Whatever shall we do for dessert tonight?
June 24 Papoose 80 77 Beautiful as usual on the Papoose, worth staying for 2 dives. Hmmm...Bananas Foster sounds good...every night!!
June 25 Hutton 50 72 Seas picked up quicker than expected, so we did one dive on the Hutton and came home. It still has good vis and sharks on patrol.

July 30 Malchase 75 83/75 Tech dive on the Malchase, great seas and no current to speak of. Lots of lionfish are all over the wreck.
July 31 Yancey 80 83/78 The current increased throughout the dive. Lots of big grouper call this wreck home, it's still intact and still laying on her port side.

40 82/77 Beautiful calm day, some clouds and rain. Lots of big big sharks on the Caribe Sea!!
August 2 Papoose
Sub
70 83 Beautiful, top to bottom. Sharks and lots of fish. A bit choppy in the afternoon, due to a thunderstorm. It rained so hard while anchored on the Papoose, we could hear the rain at the bottom, 120" deep! That was a first!
August 3 Box Wreck
Schurz
80-100
70-80
83/80 The box wreck was clear and warm, with only a gentle current running. The schurz was full of life, turtles, rays, and we got buzzed by a stingray!

The water has been warm, so warm! A repeat performance on the Schurz and extra bottom time on the Suloide made for an excellent day! Seas were glass-calm. You could almost see the bottom from the boat, on the Suloide.

81/78
Started out OK on the Duhamel, but by the end of the dive, visibility went to 2'. So we left and went to the Suloide, where the vis was good and a good dive was had.
August 9 Schurz 60-70 82 Southern wrecks are good, not really affected by the storm at all.
August 10 Papoose 80 81/78 Great day!
August 11 CaribeSea 50 82 Good vis, but we can feel a surge on the bottom.
August 12 FarEastTnkr 35-40 82 Less vis on the Far East than we expected, a good current seems to have blown some brown water in. Perhaps remnants of that offshore storm. The Atlas and CaribeSea had significantly less vis than yesterday.

August 18 CaribeSea 50 82/79 The vis is back on the East Sice, and lots, lots, lots of sharks all over the wreck and off in the sand. Warm, clear water all the way to the bottom.

Less vis on the bottom of the Caribe Sea, but the big sharks were at 50' where the water was clear and you could watch them from the hang line!
August 22 Box Wreck
Bedfordshire

August 23 Rock Ledge
Hutton

August 24 Hutton 35 82 Nice vis, some active Sand tigers and a nosy Bull shark were seen on the wreck.
August 25 Suloide 40 82 A bit clearer than the Hutton, gave up some flounder!
August 26       1st Day blown out since July 8. Wow, what a run!!
August 27 Spar     Beautiful visibility on the Spar, but a bit too rough to go any further.
There were 4 boats on the Aeolus and 2 on the Spar.
August 28 Schurz 80+ 83/78 The vis is typical NC, clear blue and spectacular! Divers saw turtles, rays and tons of fish!
August 29 Naeco
Papoose
100 83/78 As expected, the Naeco was even better! Lionfish abound, and we even saw one of those huge sea-urchins out in the sand about 500' off the wreck. It's been a few years since we saw them, but this time there was only one. Perhaps he'll stick around?

September 2 Sub

September 3 TarponProteus

80 Strange currents on the Tarpon made anchoring on it impossible.
Plan B was the Proteus, vis was excellent, and the stern section is quite magnificent! Vis on the Splendor was even better: very clear and active with marine life.
September 4 Duhamel 10-20 78 A bit rough to go any further, but the Duhamel was do-able. Enough vis to navigate the wreck, and plenty of flounder to bring home for dinner!
September 9 Titan 7 78 There must be a storm brewing out there or something....
Ophelia!! She knocked a tree into the house, made a nice hole in the roof and put tons of debris in the yard. It's a good sized hole, but we've put a tarp over it and cleaned up the mess. The Atlantis IV did quite well, she only got a bit wet from the wind blowing rain into every crevice. The Atlantis V boat and boatshed escaped unscathed.
Sept 24 FarEstTnker

78 Warm water and very calm seas today. However....the visibility sucks. You could see, but not far.
Sept 25 Papoose 15 78 Warm water. Cool turtle experience. But rough seas and low visibility. Sometimes...after a storm you have awesome visibility. Sometimes you don't.
But still, a bad day diving is better than a good day at work!!

Top of tree fell on house
(mild damage only).
We had a very high tide in the channel, and it deposited ALL the floating debris behind the boat. Water was up over the dock, in the parking lot almost into the building.  Chairs and a glass top table fell onto the boat from the 3rd floor balcony (condo to the left of the boat). It took a while to figure out where all the broken glass come from!
